ABOUT

Luke Reeves

Since the age of 12, I have known what I wanted to be; a filmmaker.

At school, I studied 'Media Production' and took part in an after-school event every week called 'Video Filmmaking Club'. Through these early practices, I started to think to myself "I could be a filmmaker"

So with ambition and a dream, I applied to Bridgwater College and studied 'Film & TV Production'. Here I acquired new knowledge and skills to help me further towards my goal.

After college, I started up my own videography company called 'Reeves Productions' where I would make promotional videos for companies and alongside wedding videos.

But I wasn't happy, these were not the kind of films I wanted to make, I wanted to make films that tell a story with complex characters, like the films that inspired and taught me.

So I applied and got accepted to the University of Winchester for a bachelor in 'Film Production', ever still trying to reach my dream which leads you to where I am today.

I've learnt a lot with my time at university, new things about me and my dreams.
Now my goal is clearer to me and has paved a new path in which to proceed, so you're probably asking "well, where do you want to go from here?"

I want to bring 3D Animation to a more mature audience, with harsher and grittier themes and stories full of character.

Animation (especially 3D animation) in film and TV is still seen as a very childish medium but with the great work of shows like 'Bojack Horseman' 'F is for Family' and films like 'Sausage Party' animation is slowly making its way to an older audience.

Wouldn't it be cool to watch a high quality animated film/show that had good characters and story, but was as gritty as 'Band of Brothers' or 'Requiem for a Dream'?

I took Media studies as an extra GSCE at school and ever since then it opened my eyes to the reality of what could be done in film, creating your crazy daydreams and bringing them to life. This entire aspect fascinated me, how our own creativity could create various stories and worlds.

That being said having left school I decided to take Media Production at Level 2 before moving on to level 3 at Abingdon and Witney College. It was here where I learnt many skills such as Adobe Flash, Premiere and Audition.

After College, I applied to Winchester University to do a BA in Film Production, which is where I ended up meeting Luke, we worked on various different projects together on our course, such as turning one of my concept scripts in to a 10 minute film!

Like Luke, I also strongly believe that the market for gritty adult animation is missing, yes things like Bojack exist but these are more dark comedies than gritty. At the same time my strong interest attracted me to this project having grown up watching other Machinma content such as the Web series Red vs Blue.
